Universal Studios Theme Park – Into the world of film making
A recreational island of Sentosa extends in the backdrop of the mainland of Singapore. Thronged by the likes of locals and tourists, this island is a hub for fun and grandeur. Sentosa Island is known for its various frivolous rides for all ages. The Universal Studios Theme Park is just a part of the island’s varied entertainment package.
Morning crowd to the theme park jostles through the sets to experience various rides before anyone else does. Bumblebee sits perched up on top of the amazing set that houses the ride. NEST, S7, Restricted Access it reads at every passage. I wonder how many of you actually remember the little Scorpion Decepticon or how well the All Spark was “securely” held?
Lots of consoles, lots of lights, lots of projectors beaming warnings- Colonel Sharp and Major Lennox barking commands at your face- the entire movie unfurls right in front of your eyes. What follows is a 4D interpretation with graphics, sound effects and interacting transformers pushing you right into the world that Michael Bay had created. Put into a little car, you find yourself in the heart of the fight between the Autobots and the Decepticons and feel the weight of Bumblebee, Optimus Prime, Shockwave and Megatron around you.
An initial thrust opens up to a few free-falls, a feeling of being thrown into the sky with nothing holding below and just the open skies above, a dive into the misty water beneath.
The set includes different aspects from the Mummy series with Egyptian gargoyles at the entrance. A little walk through the sets and a small ride in the dark within the pyramids on fast moving carts, an extremely slow ride on little cars through the desert trail are other notable parts of this land.
A boat ride and an aerial ride on a little cart dangling from a rope can push anyone back a million years right into the age of dinosaurs.
An open 4D show in a theatre is the main eye-catching piece of the set here. Well, you will enjoy the water-sprayed at you every time the Donkey sneezes or your face burning up everytime the dragon breathes.
A round of the theme park will be unfinished if you have failed to walk into the actual theatre of film making- a set dedicated to Steven Spielberg. All his movie posters decorate the entry walls. In the theatre, a thunderstorm in New York City is recreated right before your eyes with ships wobbling, windows shattering, electricity lines broken, fire raging and the entire city collapsing into rubble.
A music show is held a couple of times just opposite to the theatre. Enter and you will witness all the dirty monsters of most movies coming together to put up a musical show- or so it was called- the Monster Rock.
Well, kids will enjoy posing for photographs with some of their most sought after movie characters including Shrek, Fiona, Bumblebee, Optimus Prime, Marlin Monroe and many more.
With all the characters parading through the roads of the Studio, it was indeed nothing short a carnival. Shrek, Fiona, Alex, Puss-in-boots, Dinosaurs, Dragons, Zebras, Monkeys, Mummies, Donald Duck, Marlin Monroe, Cinderella putting their steps to cheers, shouts drums and music- I wouldn’t think anybody would ask for a more apt finish to the eventful day.
