Singapore Flyer- a Bird’s Eye view of Singapore
With an imposing height of 541ft, the Singapore Flyer stands as the tallest Ferris wheel in the world (16ft taller than the Star of Nanchang and 98ft taller than the London Eye). Termed as an observation wheel, this structure towers over the majestic Singapore Skyline and reaches 42 stories high.
Located on the southeast tip of the Marina Centre, the Flyer has a 392ft diameter wheel built over a three story terminal building which houses shops, bars and restaurants. The three floors of commercial space also have an adjacent Greek inspired theatre along the waterfront and are complemented by a jetty. The site is beautifully landscaped with roof gardens and a recreated rainforest in the terminal’s atrium. The other attractions worth checking out at the Flyer are the Flight Experience – a flight simulator, a reflexology and fish spa, XD Theatre – a cutting edge 4D motion ride theatre.
The way to the capsules hold a delightful entry with interactive media providing technical details about the Flyer including its short history and construction. Each of the 28 air-conditioned capsules can hold a maximum of 28 passengers. The complete rotation of the wheel takes about 30 minutes offering broad views of the Marina Barrage, the sea beyond it, the City Centre, Golf course, Singapore F1 street circuit, the business district among all the beautiful dots in the Singapore Skyline.
As the night descends, each capsule is lit up and the Flyer’s looks like a stunning piece of art gradually overlooking the brightened up little nation. A few capsules are well furnished and luxurious and it would be an ideal setting to have a candle light dinner in the tallest Ferris wheel of the world with the dusk creeping in.
